.Hack//Sign 1-3

I watched .Hack//Sign last night, the first three episodes. At first it seemed as though I were watching the beginning of a sequel. There was a lot of backstory that wasn’t immediately explained. But by the end of episode 3 it was clear that a major factor driving the story was the gradual exposition of the backstory. I like this plot structure, and found that it kept me interested more than most plot forms do, because as I learned more about the backstory, I also formulated more precisely defined questions about the remaining, unexposited portions of the backstory.

I’m thinking this will be a good one for K to watch.

Kajiura is one of my favorite composers, after her work on Noir and Madlax. I was very disappointed in the OP and ED for 1-3, but there are some nice character theme and background tracks. Not her best work by any means.
